No charges over Shrewsbury stabbing fight
Thursday 21st October 2010, 6:30PM BST.
Six youths arrested in connection with a brawl in which a Shropshire teenager was stabbed will not be charged, police said today.
Ryan Allis-Smith, 17, claimed he was stabbed in the back twice while trying to defend his friend during an incident in May in Castle Walk, Shrewsbury.
The teenager, of Belle Vue, Shrewsbury, was airlifted to hospital after the stabbing.
Police arrested six youths on suspicion of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in the aftermath of the incident – but police today said no further action was being taken.
Maria Wilkinson, spokeswoman for West Mercia Police, said: “Following a thorough police investigation all six were released from police bail in September and no further action is to be taken against any of them at this stage.
“If anyone has got any information that they have not yet brought to the attention of officers they should contact police on 0300 333 3000 or call the confidential Crimestoppers number 0800 555 111.”
Speaking from his hospital bed in May, Mr Allis-Smith denied claims that it was a pre-arranged fight between gangs from Shrewsbury and Telford.
The Shrewsbury Sixth Form College student said he had been an innocent victim in an unprovoked attack and said he and his friends did not know the attackers.
