Philip Dunne MP hails Ludlow hospital land deal
Sunday 17th October 2010, 5:59PM BST.
A land sale deal to pave the way for a new £27 million hospital in a Shropshire town is a “critical and necessary” step.
That is the view of Philip Dunne, MP for Ludlow, who said the deal struck between officials at Shropshire Council and Shropshire County Primary Care Trust for land at Ludlow Eco Business Park was great news for the people of Ludlow.
And Martin Taylor-Smith, Shropshire councillor for Ludlow South, said the decision had brought to a successful end a four-year campaign for a new hospital in the town and would serve up to 35,000 people.
The land is the preferred site for the town’s planned new hospital. A final decision will be made by West Midlands Strategic Health Authority on Tuesday.
The proposed hospital will include GP services and more diagnostic and treatment facilities.
It would replace the town’s community hospital on Gravel Hill.
Mr Dunne said: “I’m delighted to learn that the PCT and Shropshire Council have agreed a deal for a site for the new hospital.”
He added: “There are still many hurdles to jump but this is a critical and necessary step to start turning all the plans and thinking behind the project into practice.
