A Shropshire teenager who suffered serious head injuries when she was hit by a car is showing signs of improvement in hospital.

Grace Currie, 17, from Bagley near Baschurch, was crossing the road in Newtown, near Baschurch, when she was involved in the collision on September 27.

She is being treated in the University Hospital North Staffordshire where she was transferred from the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

Her parents, Graeme and Lorraine Currie, say they are grateful for all the care and kindness shown.

A family friend, speaking on behalf of the couple, said: “Grace is still gravely ill but there is some sign of progress.

“Her family are very appreciative of all the care and kindness that has been shown to them, both prayerful and appreciative.”

Grace, a lower sixth form student at college in Shrewsbury, is a former pupil of the Corbet School in Baschurch.

Friends and wellwishers have posted messages of support on social networking sites.
