Man in court accused of Telford factory worker’s murder
Wednesday 13th October 2010, 3:07PM BST.
A 24-year-old man accused of murdering a Telford factory worker appeared in court this afternoon.
Mariusz Garbackzewski, of Midland Court, Stanier Drive in Woodside, appeared at Telford Magistrates Court charged with the murder of 31-year-old Pavol Lazar.
Polish man Garbackzewski, flanked by two security guards, spoke only to confirm his name, age and address through an interpretor during the brief hearing.
Mr Lazar’s body was discovered at a flat at Farm Lodge Grove in Malinslee at 6pm on Friday.
A post mortem examination revealed he died of head injuries.
Mr Lazar, from the Czech Republic, worked as a welder at Telford’s GKN Sankey, where he had just graduated from the training centre.
He was described as “hard working and popular” by factory bosses who had given him a full-time position in the factory.
Mr Lazar lived at several addresses in Malinslee and Brookside. His family in his home country has been informed of his death.
Presiding magistrate Mr Glyn Parry remanded Garbackzewski in custody to appear at Shrewsbury Crown Court on Friday for a bail hearing.
A second Polish man, aged 37, also arrested on Friday on suspicion of murder, was last night released on police bail.
