Arson attack on Telford family’s home
Wednesday 13th October 2010, 6:01PM BST.
A mother and her two children had to flee their home after arsonists struck in a Telford street for a second night in a row.
Firefighters were called to Stebbings in Sutton Hill after reports a wheelie bin was on fire shortly before 3.40am.
But before they got there they came across a second fire involving rubbish by an unoccupied property about 100 metres away.
In one of the homes targeted in the early hours today the mother and her children were alerted to the wheelie bin fire after their pet dog began barking.
Yesterday a terrified mother described how she had to lead her three young children to safety after wheelie bins outside her home in Stebbings were set alight.
Chris White, watch manager at Tweedale Fire Station, said today they would be increasing their presence in the area in a bid to stop the fires.
Firefighters were also due to visit the street today to give advice to residents.
The cause of the latest blazes is being treated as “doubtful origin”.
Mr White said: “We are concerned that a fire could get into a property and pose a serious life risk to the occupants.”
He urged people to be vigilant.
