Spectators praised over school rugby match arrests
Tuesday 12th October 2010, 11:19AM BST.
Police today praised spectators who attended a rugby match for the “dignified “way they handled an incident in which three youths were arrested.
More than 150 people turned up to watch Welshpool High School versus Llanfyllin High School last Thursday.
Three youths were arrested on suspicion of affray following an incident after the match at the Maesydre playing fields, Welshpool.
Inspector Diane Davies today thanked those in attendance for the “dignified” way they handled the situation. One youth was reprimanded and two were released on bail.
Yesterday it was incorrectly reported that the match took place between Welshpool and Newtown high schools.
Antony Topazio, force spokesman, today said: “In a press release Dyfed-Powys Police incorrectly stated that the match was between Newtown High School and Welshpool High School – and we would like to apologise to the staff and pupils of Newtown High School for this mistake.”
