Plans show progress at Telford Millennium site

Plans have been submitted for the second building phase of a multi-million pound 700-home development in Shropshire.

And new artists’ impressions show how the Telford Millennium Community will continue to take shape, with an application submitted by Taylor Wimpey Homes to build another 83 homes.

The development, including a public square, school and other leisure facilities, is being built on industrial wasteland in Ketley, Telford.

More than 100 homes, along with offices and other facilities, have already been built following the first phase of the development.

A spokesman for the scheme said: “Telford Millennium Community is one of only seven Millennium Communities in the country.

“It is a prestigious new development with around 700 high quality homes along with improved community facilities and public spaces.

“Telford Millennium Community partners are committed to delivering an exceptional new neighbourhood. All homes in the development will be extremely high quality.”

The original planning application for the site was submitted in 2005, and included a residential development of around 700 homes, a new community centre and primary school, office, retail and leisure units, and large areas of open space including children’s play areas and a public square.

The first reserved matters planning application for phase one of the development was approved in July 2006, with separate applications required before each phase of building.

The spokesman added: “The Millennium Communities Programme began in 1997 with the launch of the development competition for Greenwich Millennium Village. The East Ketley site comprises 35 hectares of land to the north west of Telford town centre and was the fifth Millennium Community to be designated by the Deputy Prime Minister in July 2002.”

The application will be considered by Telford & Wrekin Council officers, who will make a recommendation to approve or refuse it before a final decision is taken later this year.
