Five arrested in Shrewsbury police drug raids
Friday 8th October 2010, 6:31PM BST.
Five people have been arrested by police carrying out drug warrants in an area of Shrewsbury. About 18 officers were involved in the early morning operation.
Officers arrested three women and two men at around 7am yesterday in the Ditherington area after magistrates granted warrants under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
They were taken into custody at Shrewsbury police station following the arrests before being interviewed.
Four were released on bail pending further inquiries and a woman was given a police caution.
Sergeant Julie Shephard, who led the operation, today said about 18 officers were involved.
A man and a woman in their 20s were arrested at a house in Wingfield Gardens on suspicion of possessing a controlled Class A drug.
A man, also in his 20s, was arrested at a home in Wingfield Close on suspicion of possessing and production of cannabis. An 18-year-old woman from the address was issued with a formal warning for possession of cannabis but was not arrested.
And a woman was arrested at a second address in Wingfield Close on suspicion of possessing cannabis with intent to supply.
Another woman from Whitehouse Gardens was arrested and received a caution for possessing cannabis.
Sergeant Shephard said: “Drug issues are a priority for the Local Policing Team in the area. Drug related offences will not be tolerated and we will take positive action wherever possible.
“Yesterday’s warrants were the latest in a series conducted in and around Shrewsbury. It’s an ongoing campaign and further warrants will follow whenever we have information to suggest illegal drug activity is taking place.”
