Two arrested over Shrewsbury assault

Two people were arrested today in connection with an assault in Shrewsbury town centre.

Police said a man and a woman were in custody at Shrewsbury police station being interviewed on suspicion of assault.

The arrests follow the release by police of CCTV images 10 days ago showing two people they wished to speak to in connection with the assault.

The incident happened in Mardol, opposite the Top Cats bar, which has recently been renamed Evolution, at about 1.10am on September 12.

A man in his late teens was reportedly pushed to the ground shortly after leaving the bar and then punched in the face.

He was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital by ambulance and treated for face injuries, including a black eye and a broken nose.

Constable Mark Naylor, the investigating officer, said he received several responses following publication of the CCTV images.

Anyone with information on the assault is urged to call Shrewsbury police on 0300 333 3000, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
