Driver dies in crash at Ketley Dingle, Telford

A man has died after his car ran into a crash barrier in Telford. The man in his early 60s was found unconscious in his car by a passing Police Community Support Officer.

The accident happened at the Ketley Dingle interchange, above the M54 motorway, at 5.30pm yesterday, closing one of the town’s busiest roads.

The CSO and paramedics attempted to resuscitate the man at the scene and on the way to the Princess Royal Hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Murray MacGregor, spokesman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: “It appears the car collided with a crash barrier on the roundabout.

“When crews arrived they found a man who was unconscious.

“They got the man out of the car and immediately started resuscitation.

“He was taken on blue lights to the Princess Royal Hospital but despite the best efforts of the crew it was not possible to save the man.”

Police closed the road and set up diversions while emergency services dealt with the incident.

The road remained closed while the car was recovered and while accident investigators worked at the scene. It was eventually reopened at about 7.35pm.

Chris Ammonds, spokesman for Telford police, said: “One of our CSOs came across the car when he was travelling back from Wellington.

“Officers are now working to try and establish the exact circumstances and the cause of the man’s death.”

No other cars were involved in incident.
