Two women and a man from Telford today denied murdering a father-of-three whose body was found on a rubbish tip.

James Haigh, 30, Melissa Parkes, 21, and 27-year-old Zena Jane Tinsley are accused of murdering Stephen Round between June 27 and July 2 this year.

Mr Round’s body was found at the Granville landfill site at Redhill in Telford on July 2.

Haigh and Parkes, both of Church Street in St Georges, and Tinsley, of Boulton Grange, Randlay, today appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court to face the charge.

All three defendants spoke only to confirm their names and reply not guilty when the charge was put to each of them.

The case was adjourned for trial and Haigh, Parkes and Tinsley were remanded in custody. No date has yet been set for the three defendants to face trial. The court was told it was likely to be held “well into the New Year”.

Members of Mr Round’s family were in the public gallery of the court for today’s hearing, including his father David Round, his mother Ann Mohan and two of his siblings Debbie and Tina Round as well as his 17-year-old son Shane Round and his godson and nephew Anthony Mason.

In a family statement they said: “We would like to thank everybody for their continuing support. We have got so many people behind us.”

Mr Round, 43, lived alone at Hayward Avenue in St Georges. He leaves a partner and three children aged 22, 17 and six.

The Granville tip was sealed off while police carried out their investigation at the site with a large team of officers working on the case.

Mr Round, who was the eldest of six children, has already been described by his family as being a “happy caring person with a cheery smile and always a kind word”.

His neighbours had described him as being a “gentle person” whom they said was a lost soul.
