Call for Oswestry traffic safety survey
Monday 4th October 2010, 8:00PM BST.
Calls for a new safety survey to be carried out on one of Shropshire’s busiest roundabouts have been made amid claims that drivers have to queue daily to get out of two villages.
Parish councillor Bill Jenkins wants to see part-time lights on the Gledrid island near Oswestry to control traffic at peak times.
He said the roundabout is so busy it is an accident waiting to happen. The roundabout, on the A5/A483 near Oswestry, is a five-road junction connecting the roads with the roads to St Martins, Weston Rhyn and Chirk.
Councillor Jenkins said: “I often find myself queuing for hundreds of yards to get out from both the St Martins and the West Rhyn roads.
“The traffic travelling on the trunk road is going so fast people emerging from the other smaller roads have to take their lives in their hands.”
Laura Owen, from Shropshire Council, said: “If people have any concerns we encourage them to get in touch with us on 0345 6789006 and we’ll investigate as appropriate.”
