Five injured in spate of Shropshire accidents

Five people were injured and traffic gridlocked following a spate of accidents across Shropshire.
A crash involving two cars caused gridlock last night near the Dobbies Garden Centre on the A5, close to Shrewsbury.
The accident happened just after 5.30pm on the Oswestry exit of the Hereford Road island.
A man and woman were taken to The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital with rib and head injuries.
One lane of traffic was opened shortly after the crash but the other was closed for an hour-and-a-half.
Inspector Jane Fitzpatrick, of West Mercia Police, said witnesses should call police on 0300 333 3000.
And three people were injured in a two-car collision on the A548, outside Cross Houses, near Shrewsbury.
The accident happened just after 2pm yesterday and a man and two women were taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. The road was closed for an hour.
Chris Kowalik, spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said one woman in her 70s was taken to the Princess Royal Hospital.
In a third incident motorists faced major traffic snarl-ups in Shrewsbury town centre after a coach got stuck under a bridge near the railway station.
The Preston’s Holiday touring coach got stuck after going under the 30 metre arched railway bridge, in Cross Street, just after 3pm yesterday.
Traffic was at a standstill for more than an hour before police released air from the tyres to lower the vehicle.
