Memories sought to create Oswestry history timeline

Troops march down Leg Street in Oswestry

People across Shropshire are being asked to share their memories to help in creating a walking timeline.

Staff at Oswestry’s The Qube are collecting histories of the town in conjunction with National BBC Hands on History project. Anyone who has lived or is living in the town is urged to take their pictures and tales to add to the timeline project for visitors and residents to enjoy.

A website will also be created with a map of the town and the information and images.

Charlotte Jackson, arts assistant at The Qube, said: “We hope to have a display around the town or a timeline. We will be running the project into next year.

“We have a few photographs so far but urgently need more.

“We want people’s stories as well. We are calling on the whole county, Oswestry and the surrounding area, if people have photographs of the town.”

Stories and pictures will be collected every Wednesday at The Qube, in Oswald Road, from October 6 until November 24.

Oswestry Online and Oswestry Heritage Group are also part of the project. Organisers want the stories presented in a written format and the most interesting could be recorded.

The Qube is the home of Oswestry Community Action and also has an art gallery which hosts exhibitions. The Qube is open Monday to Thursday from 9am to 4.30pm and on Friday 9am to 4pm.
