Fifth diesel theft from lorry parked in Knighton, Mid Wales

Hundreds of pounds worth of diesel has been stolen from a Mid Wales town in the fifth incident this year, police said today.

More than 200 litres of diesel was siphoned from a fuel tank of an unattended lorry in Knighton earlier this week, with police now urging residents and businesses to step up security.

Constable Andrew Smart, of Knighton police, said the incident involving an unattended lorry in Teme Mill, Station Road happened on Monday, between 7.30pm and 4.50am yesterday.

He said it was the fifth time this year that diesel had been stolen from vehicles parked overnight at Teme Mill.

Constable Smart added: “There are lots of things people can do to protect their property such as fixing motion sensor lights, ensuring you have quality locks for diesel storage tanks and lockable caps with anti-siphon protection.

“Vehicles can be made more secure by fitting alarms and by defensive parking. Park your vehicle in well lit areas with your tanks against solid structures such as walls.”

He also suggested parking close to CCTV cameras and where possible run the tanks down daily and re-fuel first thing in the morning rather than last thing at night.

Anyone with information regarding this theft, is asked to call police in Knighton on 0845 3302000.
