Monday 27th September 2010, 2:18PM BST.
A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle as he walked along a main road in Mid Wales.
The 19-year-old man died at the scene of the incident near Machynlleth, which happened in the early hours of Saturday.
Dyfed-Powys Police said the man, from Borth, was walking alone along the A487, about five miles south of Machynlleth, when he was killed at about 1.20am.
His family has been informed.
Antony Topazio, spokesman for Dyfed-Powys Police, said: “Dyfed-Powys Police is appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision which occurred on the A487 close to Machynlleth.
“A 19-year-old male pedestrian, who was walking along the road, died at the scene after being struck by a vehicle.”
The driver was not injured in the incident.
Russell Preece, who works at the Black Lion Restaurant in Derwenlas near the scene of the accident, said people locally were puzzled how it could have happened.
He said: “There is a cycle path there so people are wondering why he was on the road but it is an absolute tragedy because he was somebody’s son.
“There was a truck being taken away on top of another truck so I presume there was a truck involved.”
