Plea over Shrewsbury attack on girl
Friday 24th September 2010, 11:29AM BST.
A teenage girl was left shaken after she was grabbed by a man while she was out playing with friends in Shrewsbury, police said today.
Officers today appealed for people’s help in identifying the man who approached the youngster when she became separated from the group in woods off Montgomery Way, Sundorne, this week.
Police said the man grabbed hold of her but she kicked him and was able to run away, making her way home and telling her parents what had happened.
Officers were called and carried out a search in the area but the man was not found.
The victim was left shaken and upset but not physically injured following the incident which happened at about 7.40pm on Monday, police added.
The man is described as white, in his 30s or 40s, about 5ft 9in tall and of heavy build.
He had a small moustache and was wearing a dark baseball cap, a dark waterproof jacket, dark blue shorts with red and green stripes down the side and white trainers.
Constable Helen Cooper, who is investigating the incident, appealed for anyone who might have seen the man in the area at the time or who may recognise the description of him to contact Shrewsbury police on 0300 333 3000.
“Anyone who might have seen the actual incident or who might have information that could be relevant to our inquiry is also asked to please get in touch,” she said.
Information can also be passed on via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where a reward is sometimes offered.
Officers are particularly keen to speak to a man who was walking two dogs in the area that night, believed to be Staffordshire bull terriers.
Constable Cooper added: “The victim came across this man as she ran away and it is possible that he may have seen the offender or have other information which could help our investigation.”
