A 28-year-old man was arrested in Telford today after police raided two homes in a crackdown on illegal drugs.

The man was arrested when a team of officers swooped on a property at Mercier Drive in Leegomery shortly before 10am.

He was arrested on suspicion of possession of class-A drugs and was being quizzed by officers at Telford’s Malinsgate Police Station this afternoon.

A property in Anson Drive in Leegomery was also raided by officers at the same time. A search was made of the property but police said nothing was found.

Inspector Jennie Sullivan, of North Telford policing team who led today’s operation, said it showed that the use or the supply of illegal drugs would not be tolerated on the streets of Telford.

She said warrants were often executed after information was given to police by members of the public and urged anyone who knew of any suspicious activity concerning drugs to contact police.

“A 28-year-old man was arrested at one of the addresses on suspicion of possession of class-A drugs,” she added. “A quantity of drugs was found at the property which we suspect to be class-A.

“Anybody who witnesses any unusual behaviour by their neighbours or any cars arriving at unsociable times of day and suspects illegal activity could be taking place should contact their local policing team and the information will be acted upon.”
