Tributes paid to teen killed in Shropshire crash

A teenager who died in a car crash was today named locally as a former south Shropshire college student.

Tributes were today paid to the teenager, named as 18-year-old James Fox.

He died after the vehicle he was travelling in rolled down an embankment at Hope-under-Dinmore near Leominster on the A49, overturn- ed and caught fire in the early hours of Sunday.

Education bosses today said Mr Fox was a former student at Ludlow College and Wigmore High School.

Jonathan Davis, acting principal at Ludlow College, said: “All of Ludlow College are very shocked and saddened to hear of James’s death.

“He was a hard working, popular and friendly student who left us this summer after studying biology, maths and business studies.

“Our deepest sympathies go to his friends and family at this time.”

Andrew Shaw, headteacher at Wigmore School, said: “James was a bright and very popular young man with so much to look forward to.

“He always gave something of himself to school life and his many friendships with pupils and staff are testament to this.

“James always faced everything with a smile on his face. The tragic news of his death has rocked the whole school community.”

Friends have also left messages of sympathy on Facebook.

Yesterday, police said the driver of the vehicle had been arrested and questioned on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, before being released on bail.
