A Shropshire teenager rescued a nine-week-old kitten which was being kicked and beaten in the street by a youth.

Yasmin Davies, 13, from Ditherington, in Shrewsbury, was today praised by veterinary staff for saving the helpless kitten, which was attacked on Monday afternoon by a boy in Worcester Road, Shrewsbury.

After Grange Secondary School pupil Yasmin took the kitten to her home, her mother Tracey contacted the town’s Abbey Veterinary Centre, which took the frightened kitten in to asses its injuries.

A clinical examination from veterinary surgeon Mike Madden found no long-term damage and the short-haired domestic tabby cat is now recovering and waiting for its owners to come forward.

Mrs Davies said: “When Yasmin was walking home she saw a boy kicking the kitten in the head. She was upset and shaken up but she saved the kitten and brought it home.

“I have always taught my children about looking after animals. I’m very proud and have been out to buy her some sweets as a way of saying well done. She wanted to keep it but I have a fur allergy so unfortunately we can’t have cats.”

Tara Morris, student veterinary nurse, said: “The kitten is so small it just should not have been out alone.”

Anyone with information about the kitten can contact the vets on (01743) 232713.

If anyone has any information on the youth that was kicking the cat then you should pass the details onto the police. Or alternatively send the details to me, I can then give the youth a thorough education on violence and demonstrate how it achieves nothing.

Well done Yasmin. What a shame there was no-one around to give that b—–d a bit of his own medicine.

Well done Yasmin. There’s some brainless scum around… how small and worthless would you have to be, to take it out on a kitten?

How about a description of the little thug who did this?

    Certainly hope he gets his.

You should be exceptionally pleased with yourself Yasmin, and if I was your mother, I’d be very very proud of you for standing up for a defenceless animal. I hope the police look into this (but won’t hold my breath) and that the little imbecile who did this gets his just desserts!!

I’m guessing that the attacker comes from a deprived background and lives in poverty so lets not infringe on his human rights by attempting to punish him. He clearly needs help and guidance.

Well said Squire – the poor little chap just needs some help. I’ve got two cats and two very cat-friendly spaniels that would just love to give him some guidance.

OMG what is wrong with people, first some woman put a cat in a wheelie bin for fun!!! Next thing you know someone is abandoning their lame dog at an industrial estate and now this.

I just dont understand how people can do this, would they want it done to themselves? I think not.

I applaud Yasmin for her courage and obvious compassion.

Lets hope the little so and so is caught.

Well done Yasmin, I dread to think what would have happened to the kitten had you not been there at the right time.

This terrible behaviour really makes me sad especially as I – like yourself – just love animals.

I think the publicity given to the recent case of a cat being dropped into a wheelie bin may “assist” these ratbags in thinking they can cause distress as well.

Ang, Why take a pop at the police when you don’t even know what has been reported. The case is one of animal cruelty and has the appropiate organisations for dealing with this type of thing (I.E the RSPCA). The Police do an excellent job.
Well done Yasmin. if only more people would stand up in our communities to make them a better place to live.

Well said Jules. The police also like animals and would be equally sickened by this little thug. Unfortunately they have to show some constraint when dealing with sick people who choose to pick on defenceless animals so maybe on this occasion perhaps Squire would be the one to find out his identity first to give him a little of what he clearly deserves…. Well done Yasmine!

Well done Yasmin, you did a brave thing. I believe there are two different categories of people. One type (thankfully the majority) who find cruelty and violence abhorrent, and the other type who find perverse personal gratification and pleasure in inflicting their cruelty on the defenseless. Obviously the perpetrator in this case falls squarely into the latter category.

Perhaps I am naive in thinking this kind of behaviour is something these people should take personal responsibility for and that there are no excuses for such actions, be they domestic violence excuses, poverty excuses, social or physical inadequacy excuses etc. But I agree with Squire, this boy needs help and guidance; in my opinion help of both the psychiatric and judicial kind.

If the police catch the yob, they will only let it off. They are too soft on these yobs in this country. He should be kicked around the street. And i bet if someone did that to him they would get in to more trouble than he will.
