Controlled explosion as hand grenade found

A controlled explosion had to be carried out on a hand grenade found in rural north Shropshire today, police said.
A man called police after finding the hand grenade in Poynton Green, near Shawbury, just after 10am.
Police inspector Mark Hatton said officers who attended called bomb specialists from the Army’s Explosive Ordnance Department.
They carried out a controlled explosion.
Police said the incident was dealt with by about 1pm.
