No charges over Bridgnorth market crash

No-one is to face charges over a crash in which a car ploughed into stall holders and shoppers in Bridgnorth leaving 14 people injured.

The driver of the car involved in the smash, an elderly man, has, however, voluntarily given up his licence.

Fourteen people were left injured, including three seriously, when the car drove into the market under the Town Hall in April.

Police have spent the last five months investigating the cause of the crash and deciding whether any offences were committed.

West Mercia Police spokeswoman Maria Wilkinson today confirmed no-one had been charged in connection with the incident on April 16.

She said: “Following a thorough investigation, a file was handed to the Crown Prosecution Service which, in conjunction with the police, took the decision that it is not in the public interest to prosecute the driver of the car.”
