Woman robbed at knifepoint in Shrewsbury
Monday 13th September 2010, 7:05PM BST.
An 18-year-old woman was left shaken after being threatened at knife point and forced to hand over £90 as she walked home in Shrewsbury, police officers said today.
The woman was targeted by a man who forced her to empty her pockets before fleeing the scene.
Police today appealed for help to trace the robber following the incident, which happened in the town’s Underdale Road area at about 7.45pm on Friday.
The young woman was left shaken but uninjured as a result of the incident.
Richard Ewels, a West Mercia Police spokesman, said: “This was a serious incident and we are appealing to anyone who might be able to help to come forward.”
He said before she was threatened, the woman had walked over the Castle Walk bridge and up Underdale Road, entering a path next to the allotments known as Cinder Path.
Mr Ewels said the victim saw a man standing beside some trees who asked her for the time.
As she was about to check the time on her mobile phone the man produced a knife and ordered her to empty her pockets, he said.
The man then grabbed the money and a cash card and ran off towards the link road.
Mr Ewels said: “If anyone thinks they may have spotted this man, or has information about his possible identity, they should contact Shrewsbury police station on 0300 333 3000.”
The man is described as slim and quite tall.
He was wearing a black hoodie with the hood up, leather type biker gloves, dark coloured jeans and trainers.
Information can also be given anonymously to the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555111.
