Telford charity box theft

A thief walked into a Telford community centre and stole a charity box after buying a cup of tea, police said today.

Staff at Sutton Hill Community Centre discovered the theft a short time after the man had walked out carrying a yellow object.

Police today appealed for anyone with information or witnesses to the incident to contact them.

They said the man walked into the cafe area between 1pm and 2pm on September 2. He bought a cup of tea, which he then drank, and a short time later he left the building.

Police said as he left the community centre, a member of staff noticed that he was carrying a yellow object of some sort but did not think anything more of it.

Chris Ammonds, Telford police spokesman, said today: “A short time later other staff members discovered that a yellow charity box was missing.

“It is thought the unknown man may have stolen the box.”

Police said the man was described as being white, aged in his late 30s or early 40s, 5ft 10 ins tall with collar length, dark or mousey coloured, curly hair.
