Telford man jailed for harassment against ex-girlfriend
Thursday 9th September 2010, 7:59AM BST.
A Telford man who assaulted his former girlfriend and then launched a campaign of harassment against her has been jailed and given a restraining order.
Ian Voyce, 25, throttled and punched Kate Rigby during the “terrifying” attack which had been sparked by his “childish, petty jealousy”, Shrewsbury Crown Court was told yesterday.
The court heard Voyce, of Withywood Drive, Malinslee, had on a previous court appearance admitted assaulting Miss Rigby on June 2, causing her actual bodily harm.
He had also admitted causing criminal damage to her car during the same incident and harassing her for weeks after the attack.
Voyce was jailed for a total of 18 months and made subject of a seven-year restraining order.
The order bans him from contacting Miss Rigby and entering the street where she lives and her workplace.
Mr Peter Cook, prosecuting, said the couple’s relationship had ended in February but on June 2 Voyce called Miss Rigby for a lift.
The court heard that during the assault Miss Rigby thought Voyce was so out of control that she feared he would kill her.
