Officer jailed for assaulting woman in police cell

A policeman who injured a woman when he threw her into a police cell was today jailed for six months aSergeant Mark Andrews was jailed for six months at Oxford Magistrates’ Court today after he injured a woman when he assaulted her in a police cell.

Sgt Mark Andrews was caught on CCTV as he dragged Pamela Somerville, 59, through Melksham police station in Wiltshire.

Andrews, 37, was convicted of causing her actual bodily harm. He has been suspended from duty and will face a police misconduct hearing.

Ms Somerville was arrested in July 2008 after being found asleep in her car.
