Government asked to call in Oswestry supermarket plans

The Government is being asked to call in Oswestry’s four superstore planning applications so that a planning inspector can consider all four at the same time.

The move by Shropshire Council follows news that one of the applicants is appealing against refusal of permission to build a store and cinema in the town.

Council bosses fear individual appeals could lead to more than one new superstore being built in the town.

J Ross Developments is appealing against refusal of its plans for the Central Car Park.

Three other sites have been earmarked for a supermarket. They are the Smithfield livestock site in Shrewsbury Road, timber firm Richard Burbidge’s land at Whittington Road, and car firm JT Hughes and guttering firm Guttercrest combined sites in Victoria Road.
