Woman sexually assaulted near Donnington, Telford, Aldi store

A woman suffered a serious sexual assault when she took shelter from the rain after getting off a bus near to the Aldi store in Donnington, Telford, police said today.

The woman got off a bus at a bus stop in Wellington Road, Donnington, before taking shelter on the nearby recreation ground.

Police said a “serious sexual assault” then took place on the ground close to the Aldi supermarket.

It happened on August 23 between 11.45am and 12.30pm and police today appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

Detective Constable Allan Black, of Telford CID, said a man in his mid 20s was arrested on suspicion of rape and was released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Mr Black said: “Although a little time has passed since this assault I am keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed anything unusual in that area at around the time in question.

“The victim remembers seeing a number of dog walkers in and around the recreation ground at the time she was being assaulted and therefore we are especially keen to hear from anyone who may have been walking their dog at the time this assault occurred.

“If you were walking your dog that day and saw anything that could be linked to the incident we are investigating please make contact with us.”

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to contact Telford police on 0300 333 3000 or, alternatively, ring the Crimestoppers helpline on 0800 555 111 if you would prefer to remain anonymous.
