Market Drayton Morrisons in expansion plan
Monday 6th September 2010, 11:24AM BST.
Plans to extend a Shropshire supermarket, creating new jobs have been submitted to council chiefs.
Bosses of Morrisons in Market Drayton have submitted proposals which include extending the existing building and creating 32 new car park spaces.
The development involves creating a new sales and prep area, warehouse and cafe, which could create six full-time jobs and 24 part-time positions in the area.
Roy Aldcroft, chairman of Market Drayton Chamber of Trade and Commerce, welcomed the news of the store’s expansion.
“Anything that creates new jobs in Market Drayton is always welcomed and it is good to see that Morrision’s are successful in the town. I welcome extension plans, including a new cafe, and feel new car parking spaces are much needed.
“My only slight concerns are the effects the new cafe will have on existing businesses in the town, but think the store is further enough away for this not to be an issue.”
The public has until September 23 to comment on the new plans.
