Oswestry water quality to come under spotlight
Thursday 2nd September 2010, 11:14AM BST.
Water quality in Oswestry is to come under the spotlight at a crunch meeting between a county MP and water chiefs.
The town’s supply switched from United Utilities to Severn Trent several years ago. But critics claim it tasted far better before the change and now has a milky appearance.
Residents want the problem sorted and now talks have been set up to try and resolve the issue.
North Shropshire MP Owen Paterson and Sir James Perowne, chairman of the Consumer Council for Water, will be at a meeting on September 24 at the town’s Guildhall from 11am.
Representatives from Severn Trent and United Utilities are also hoping to attend.
Today Mr Paterson said: “People are unhappy about the supply changes and say the supply is inadequate.”
He said: “It will be a frien-dly meeting and I hope both sides get a result from it.”
Mr Paterson said that the meeting had been arranged by the town council.
David Preston, town council clerk, said: “The town council has had concerns since 2003 when the water supply was changed.”
A spokesperson for Severn Trent said: “I can confirm that we have accepted the invitation to join United Utilities and the local council at a meeting in Oswestry on September 24.”
