More rallies planned in Telford to stop civil servant jobs axe

Two more rallies involving hundreds of protestors will take place on the same day as a demonstration of more than 1,000 workers from Telford’s MoD base amid fears civil servant jobs could be slashed, it was revealed today.

The rallies will take place in Telford on Tuesday, on the same day civil servants based at MoD Donnington will march against potential Government cuts to jobs, compensation and pensions, which they claim would be “savage”.

MoD workers will also join forces with their unions to launch a Telford Anti-Cuts movement in a further bid to raise public awareness of the potential cuts.

The main demonstration organised by Unite will see more than 1,000 workers marching the short distance from the base to a lunchtime rally at Cordingley Hall in Donnington where they will be met by Telford MP David Wright and Jonathan Sedgebeer, secretary of the Telford Unison Branch, who will both give a speech.

As the Donnington workers begin their rally another one, organised by The Public and Commercial Services Union, will take place at Meeting Point House in Telford Town Centre.

The final rally will be at Telford Civic Offices on Tuesday night when Shropshire and Telford Trades Union Council will hold a meeting to oppose academy schools.
