Shrews’ stadium to host England Women’s match
Friday 27th August 2010, 11:29AM BST.
Shrewsbury Town’s Greenhous Meadow Stadium will host the home leg of England’s crucial FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011 qualifying play-off next month.
The home leg against unknown opponents will be on September 15 or 16. It will be the third time the club has hosted the side in the last four years.
Details of the match came as there was disappointing news for the New Saints last night who fell short of pulling of a Europa League play-off shock despite a brave draw against CSKA Sofia.
The Welsh Premier Champions, who play near Oswestry, battled back in the entertaining 2-2 draw after the Bulgarians, who had sealed a 3-0 first leg result, scored a vital away goal in the early stages.
Meanwhile, Shropshire football fans will be looking ahead to the women’s international after the side recently entertained crowds at Shrewsbury taking on Spain and Norway.
The side will discover their opponents on Monday at 1pm.
