Seal of approval for Telford Town Park scheme

Thursday 26th August 2010, 11:29AM BST.

Telford Town Park will get a new visitor centre when the existing one is bulldozed as part of a £250 million redevelopment.

The new centre, approved last night by Telford & Wrekin Council’s plans board, will be built in Hinkshay Road, Malinslee.
Councillors heard the building would be one of a number of improvements to facilities and attractions in the town park.

The existing visitor centre at Spout Farm House will be demolished as part of a planned redevelopment of the Southwater area which would see shops, bars, cafes and hundreds of new homes built.

A report to last night’s meeting said the new centre would be single-storey and house toilets, baby changing facilities, an information desk, a cafe and refreshments area.
There would also be a staff room and an office.

A second phase of the project is in the pipeline with an educational space and bike hire to be added.

The report says: “The visitor centre is appropriately located.”
