Residents flee Whitchurch blaze

Residents had to flee a block of flats in north Shropshire in the middle of the night after a fire “of doubtful origin” broke out.

Firefighters were called to Castle Court in Whitchurch just after 4.30am today after reports of a rubbish fire on the second floor landing of the building, which contains six flats.

Mike Beach, fire officer in charge at Whitchurch, said on arrival crews discovered all the residents had got themselves out safely. He said: “It caused quite a bit of damage.”
