Free gym offer for Telford families
Thursday 26th August 2010, 12:25AM BST.
Leisure chiefs in Telford are offering 20 families in the borough free sports and gym sessions for five months as part of a drive to improve health and battle obesity.
The Active Families scheme seeks to encourage families to take part in more physical activity.
The 20 families will be able to take part in activities including badminton, squash, swimming and golf at Telford & Wrekin Council-run leisure sites.
Families will also be offered free of use of gym and training instructors to plan a personal fitness programme, as well as NHS Health Trainers.
Councillor Stephen Bentley, cabinet member for active lifestyles, said: “One of the council’s priorities is to encourage people of all ages and abilities in the borough to take part in regular physical activity to improve health and general well being.
“The scheme is a fantastic way to highlight to families what leisure and sports activities are available to them locally, and members of the leisure staff will work closely alongside each family to help them to create a regime to fit into their lifestyle and which is tailored to their personal needs.”
The deadline for applications is September 30.

maybe telford could reduce its gym costs to all ? or the council could spend some of the money we pay them on gyms for us instead of waisting it knocking down things like the visitor center in the town park just to rebuild it again ?
