Three killed in Shropshire crashes
Monday 23rd August 2010, 11:30AM BST.
Three people have died and a driver was injured in three separate crashes on roads in Shropshire.
In one accident a cyclist in his 50s was found lying injured next to his bike in Ryton Road, Beckbury, near Shifnal, just after 12.30pm yesterday.
The incident is being treated by police as a crash, although it is not yet known how the cyclist, who later died at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, came off his bike.
Later in the day two motorcyclists died in separate collisions near Oswestry and Shrewsbury.
Constable Steve Bloomer, of Shifnal Police Station and who is investigating the cycle collision, said: “The man was riding a fairly distinctive carbon fibre racing bike and I would ask anyone who might have seen him in the area or witnessed the incident to get in touch.”
In a separate accident a man in his 60s from the West Midlands died after a collision on the A483 close to the Mile End roundabout, near Oswestry.
Police today said it was believed the victim, a motorcyclist, was in collision with another bike travelling in the same direction after overtaking a van. He veered across the road and struck a tree.
West Midlands Ambulance spokesman, Chris Kowalik, said the motorcyclist and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Later in the day another motorcyclist was killed in a four-vehicle collision the B5062 at Uffington, near the crossroads for Haughton and Withington, near Shrewsbury, at 9.20pm.
An Audi 80, a Ford Focus and a Mini Cooper were travelling towards Shrewsbury and a Suzuki motorcycle was travelling in the opposite direction.
The Audi is believed to have been in collision with the motorcycle and the Ford before ending up in a field.
The motorcyclist, a man, suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Audi driver was taken to hospital with injuries to his face and the woman driving the Ford was treated for shock.
The road was closed overnight until about 4.20am today while the vehicles were recovered and while police collision investigators were working at the scene.
