Letter: Swimming cutbacks have caused a splash
Monday 23rd August 2010, 3:48PM BST.
I have just returned from Wellington Leisure Centre disappointed that my over-60s non-resident free swim has been axed in the name of Government cutbacks.
A consultant recommended this exercise as being beneficial to my injured shoulder. I pay for my son to use the fitness suite but cannot afford to pay for both of us three times a week.
It would be interesting to find out exactly how much money this will save as there cannot be thousands of us taking advantage of this healthy activity and, in my case the council will save nothing as I won’t be going any more. Indeed they will lose, as I always used the refreshment facilities after a swim.

Yes their will be thousands of people taking advantage, and yes it will save alot of money. To think that your the only one using the free swim is a bit silly really.
The council will not loose any sleep over the non-use of the refreshment facility either.
Dont mean to be harsh, but tht the way it’s got to go these days. We gotta pay that money back! – sorry.

As an after thought, why don’t you stop paying for your son, then use that money to pay for your swim, Job done – sorted – NEXT!
