More Oswestry roads shut for work
Monday 23rd August 2010, 11:29AM BST.
More roads in Oswestry have been closed because of work being carried out by Severn Trent Water.
Victoria Road has been closed for the last three months and Park Street has also been affected.
Now workers have moved into Western Lane, Wilmot Drive and Queen’s Close.
The road closures are in force in the town so the company can carry out £1.7 million works to install an underground storm attenuation tank.
The tank is said to stop homes in Victoria Road, Victoria Close and Victoria Fields from becoming flooded.
The news comes as the company was today praised for keeping disruption to a minimum by the town’s Trinity Area Residents Association.
Peter Lloyd, the group’s chairman, said: “We are impressed that it has been quite well managed and Severn Trent seems to have got their act together.”
It is hoped the sewage works will be completed by the end of January 2011.
A spokesman for Severn Trent said: “We are pleased the water mains work project is continuing to run on schedule and we have finished Victoria Road and Lower Brook Street last week.
“We are very pleased to have that response from residents.”
