Martin Shaw fails to perform at show
Saturday 21st August 2010, 11:30AM BST.
TV star Martin Shaw was unable to perform at Shrewsbury’s Theatre Severn last night despite his best attempts to return to the stage.
Bosses at the venue in Frankwell, where the 65-year-old actor collapsed during a matinee performance of A Country Girl on Wednesday, today said an understudy had performed instead.
An understudy will also take on Mr Shaw’s role tonight.
Roger Charteris, agent for Mr Shaw, had said yesterday that the actor – best known for his title role in ITV’s Judge John Deed – had been determined to appear in last night’s production.
He said he had been resting in his hotel room in Shrewsbury having collapsed at the £28 million theatre on Wednesday before being rushed to hospital.
But Peter Nicholson, Theatre Severn’s manager, today said Mr Shaw had not been well enough to return to the stage.
