Traffic chaos as thousands head to V Festival
Friday 20th August 2010, 11:00AM BST.
Motorists faced rush-hour misery this morning as thousands of vehicles jammed the M54 and nearby roads as revellers made their way to V Festival.
There were lengthy tailbacks en route to Weston Park as 90,000 fans started their lengthy journeys to the showground as gates opened for the 15th annual event.
There were unusual scenes as fans from across the UK were stuck in traffic jams wearing cowboy hats and singing along to songs by their favourite bands as suit-wearing commuters looked on.
Shropshire Star V Festival superfan Vanessa Woodhouse, from Cleobury Mortimer, was among the early bird arrivals at Weston Park.
She said: “I’ve only missed one V, so I’m fairly experienced and I got here nice and early to miss the traffic. It’s a great line-up.”
V Festival spokesman James Duffy thanked motorists for their patience in the face of lengthy traffic queues.
He said V Festival stewards were trying to get people into the arena as quickly and as safely as possible.

I think it’s great having such a national event located on our doorstep. I live close to Weston and the traffic and distruption only lasts for a couple of days. We can all deal with it.
Festival goers are, on the whole, a happy bunch and I hope they have a great weekend. Although looking at the rain hitting the window those with leaky tents may not….

I think the traffic at the V Festival is expertly managed under very difficult circumstances. Those guys do an amazing job…. Well done for another successful year!!!

Just spare a thought for the locals. Its a preverbial pain when you get caught up in
the festival traffic and you are trying
to get to and from work.
