Ruyton-XI-Towns resurfacing ‘could save lives’
Friday 20th August 2010, 8:00AM BST.
Road improvements in a village near Oswestry could save children’s lives, the area’s Shropshire Councillor said today.
Villagers in Ruyton-XI-Towns have been warned to expect disruption when the resurfacing work starts on the B4397 on Monday.
The work will see the busy road closed for five days between 9am and 4pm, with diversions being put in place to control traffic.
Councillor Aggie Caesar-Homden said although the closure would cause inconvenience, the scheme also involved the introduction of safety improvements.
She said the village was fortunate the improvements were going ahead in the light of public sector cuts.
Mrs Caesar-Homden said: “There will be inconvenience but we have been working closely with businesses and residents to keep disruption down to a minimum.
“Safety of pedestrians is paramount and I think it is a very positive step to have the work carried out.”
