It’s V. wet at the V Festival

Thousands of music fans were flocking into Shropshire today to set up their camps for the annual V Festival.

Up to 90,000 people are expected to flood into the grounds of Weston Park on the east Shropshire border for a two-day feast of music, where Kings of Leon, Kasabian, Paul Weller, The Prodigy, Madness and Peter Andre are among the long-awaited weekend’s major headline acts.

Event organiser Dawn Woodhouse said preparations for this year’s 15th V had gone smoothly.

“We’ve been lucky because we’ve had some pretty good weather,” she said.

Festival-goers may not be quite so lucky this weekend, however, with the Met Office warning of heavy showers tomorrow, the first of two days of live music.

A spokeswoman said: “Heavy showers are forecast on Saturday, although festival-goers should still expect some sunny spells.

Drivers are being warned to avoid the area around junction three of the M54, at Tong, this weekend, as well as the A41 between Wolverhampton and Newport, where lengthy delays are expected.

The Weston Park event has been a sell-out for weeks, but music fans without tickets can still experience parts of the festival as it happens this year.

For the first time, V Festival is being broadcast live online, in a partnership deal with Nokia.

It promises to be a festival to remember for one Shropshire fan.

Vanessa Woodhouse, from Cleobury Mortimer, won a competition to find the county’s V-superfan.

Her prize is a VIP pass, giving her access to many private zones on the site, as well as exclusive merchandise from some of the headline acts.
