Letter: In praise of Telford & Wrekin Council

Letter: About a month ago I wrote a letter to this paper about how it took embarrassing press coverage before the council repaired a pothole that had reached its seventh birthday, adding that this was symptomatic of the authority’s apathy to repairing the street environment around the Regent Street neighbourhood.

After the Shropshire Star, the Sun and the Daily Mirror had written their disparaging articles, Telford & Wrekin not only filled in the pothole but also undertook dozens of other patching up jobs. This was admired by myself and the residents, and we all thought this was a satisfying end to the campaign.

But no, more, much more was to come. On my return from a camping holiday in Wales, I walked up Regent Street and beheld a truly beautiful sight. All the footpaths on both sides of Regent Street, Urban Gardens, Urban Way and Millfields have been resurfaced.

I take it all back Telford & Wrekin, you are caring and this work is appreciated.

Meanwhile the pavements around the Sandbrook Estate all remain totally inaccessible to a wheelchair user! I guess we must not be in that list of “desirables” then must we?

After 30+ years of neglect, there’s a lot of catch-up to do.

I like this article, i think it shows that an unhappy resident is now satisfied and happy the work has finally been completed and more.

It’s nice to hear. Well done T&W Council.

Hardly praiseworthy, they should do what they are paid to do ,when it needs doing, not 7 years later and after several newspapers were on their case. There are many more potholes to fill, now that they have got a tatste for it.

Congratulations Telford and wrekin council for spending my hard earned cash on fixing one road, not off your own back, after someone wrote in a letter. How about coming and fixing my road now?

If you brought a telly and the picture was upside down, or you brought a watch that didnt tell the time, would you take it back? well why if i pay my council/road and every other tax i pay, should i have to put up and still pay with the terrible state telford is turning into. Its a farce….
