Bridgnorth gateway to close for improvement work
Thursday 19th August 2010, 1:01PM BST.
One of the main gateways into Bridgnorth is to be closed while improvements are made to nearby roads.
Northgate, which is one of the main routes into the High Town area of Bridgnorth, will be shut for two days.
Resurfacing work is due to be carried out as part of the Whitburn Street, High Street and Northgate enhancements. This closure — on September 1 and 2 - is essential due to the narrow width of the Northgate Arch.
It is expected to cause disruption for drivers. Impr-ovements to the streets will include wider pavements, new granite kerbs and more loading and disabled bays.
Whitburn Street will also be made one-way.
Councillor Martin Taylor-Smith, for Shropshire Council, said: “This is an important scheme which will improve the look and usability of this important town centre.”
A diversion will be clearly signed and access to properties will be maintained.
