Letter: Pay. Park and Ride. Pay again…
Wednesday 18th August 2010, 7:53AM BST.
Letter: I have been under the impression that Shropshire Council is doing its bit in helping the environment and cost saving.
If this is so, then why is it that the return tickets have been stopped on the Park and Ride, and only single tickets issued each way, thus using twice the paper and trees?
Or have I got my maths wrong?

More to do with the powers that be treating us like idiots thinking we are getting a discount by charging us twice!
Also, I wonder if the operators of the service are subsidised according to tickets sold as opposed to amount of people carried… or by selling two tickets instead of one I wonder if they are artificially inflating the numbers of consumers, (once again with the intention of securing or protecting funding).

And I bet 2 single fares cost more than the return fare used to. The council is not doing it’s bit to save the environment but doing its’ bit to address the shortfall in the council budget.

why worry about it no one goes shopping any more to shrewsbury, we all bypass it to telford as they dont rip us off for parking and the kids have got a great play park and great activities. something shrewsbury should think about. as its over priced parking and bus fairs go up more business other towns make money :)
keep over pricing people keep other superstores happy :)

Is parking now free at Telford Town Centre?
The trouble is that you are visiting Teford – Chavtastic!
I prefer to bypass Teford and head for Merry hill – hundreds of FREE parking spaces with no time limit. Much better selection of shops too. Plus the added bonus of not having to step foot in Teford!

Excuse me I live in Telford and am most certainly not a chav nor do I dress as one.
And I find there’s less choice for shopping in Shrewsbury than there is in Telford myself. Lets face it, your shopping centre is barely a fraction of the size of Telford and we’ve got more retail parks where it is free to park
So go pipe down and put the PG Tips on Monkey

It’s so easy to forget about the victims. You LIVE in Teford – you have my deepest sympathy. I forget that I’m one of the lucky ones that live in a house, not a shopping mall.

Sorry Jonny Vegas, but Telford shopping centre might be bigger than Shrewsbury but it isn’t better, far from it.
Your town centre closes at 5.30, ours is open 24 hours a day seven days a week. Its got character, not piped music and when the sun shines, well! beats all that artificial lighting any day, furthermore Our retail parks are also free.
Shrewsbury’s centre is not the best far from it, but it is better than Telfords.

So the Darwin centre and the Pride Hill centre don’t have piped music and artificial lighting. Or perhaps you mean Pride Hill with its empty shops and white washed windows. How quaint.

Have you been down pride hill recently? I can only think of 1 vacant unit that used to be burger king.
Why don’t you join Shropshire lad and myself for a pint in one of our many pubs, a bite to eat in one of our many restaurants or maybe a stroll down the banks of the beautiful river & quarry park. This all of course being a little tricky for you to do in that eyesore called Teford town centre.

I used to keep one of those many pubs, the one in the square, but no thanks to the invite as i was born in Shrewsbury and just like its famous son ( Darwin ) i left at the earliest possible moment so i could experience other towns and cities rather than staying in Shrewsbury and banging on about how good Britains largest open air retirement home is.
P.s Ironbridge has the same river as you and lots of lovely pubs. Fortunately though it does lack the small minded arrogance associated with some towns.

@ twisting my melon
Have they moved Ironbridge to Teford town centre now have they?
Darwin left shrewsbury to continue education & work reasons – not something that would mean a lot to the average ‘Telf’. Secretly though Shrewsbury is jealous of Teford producing a member of T’pau, we can only produce great thinkers as seen on your £10 note.
I’m guessing the pub failing is the root of the shrewsbury venom from you is it?

@ twisting my melon
P.S. – you left Shrewsbury to experience other towns & cities – you got as far as Teford! I go further than that to get to work!

Aren’t there any jobs in this paradise utopia of shrewsbury.
ps, Telford via South America, Scotland, Stoke, Morocco, and South Wales..

@ twisting my melon
South Wales, Scotland & Stoke! Easy there Philleas Fogg. We’ve all been on holiday too you know.
P.s. started with my present company in shrewsbury and got promoted & take my expertise to another site – that’s how shrewsbury rolls.
Must be about 5-0 to me by now isn’t it?

Oh yeah you’re the man. Make it 6-0 because your ego is also far superior to mine.
Now what do you think about the park and ride prices.
if you use park and ride you are not being charged twice. £1.40 per adult RETURN with accompanied children FREE seems a pretty good price to me. The only time you have to get another ticket on the way back is if you have a council oap/disability bus pass. this has been implemented at the request of the council and has nothing to do with the bus company.
oh by the way shrewsbury park and ride you dont get one but yu can get 3 all at once as they dont communicate with each other and its cold and wet standing around for over half an hour kids crying mummy why dident you bring car into town we be home buy now sorry kids but we try to be enviroment friendly but it dosent seem to suit shrewsbury does it :)

well pardon me the drivers do the best they can, if you want to complain and moan look no further than the council. they managed to cock up the bridge street/barker street/smithfield rd traffic lights so at times there is now no traffic flow whatsoever, they put an extra phase in for hills lane, god only knows why and painted a yellow box over the junction. this now means you have to wait till the otherside of the box is clear, by which time your lights have gone back to red. its quite normal to have to wait at these lights for about 5 complete turns before you can get through assuming of course that motorists coming off claremont bank dont blatantly go through on red which is also causing problems. the traffic at times now stretches back halfay down wyle cop due to these lights yet when you get through them smithfield road is clear. according to the council theres no problem with these lights. i think they must be looking somewhere else to be honest. instead of employing people with clipboards to stand at the lights who obviously havent got the foggiest what theyre doing to ‘observe’, take a download of arrivas buses onboard cctv if they cant see any problem then they must be blind. Unfortunately arrivas buses have to queue up in the traffic just like everyother tom dick and harry so is it anywonder they run late. oh and by the way contrary to popular belief the buses are not equipped with wings to fly over the queueing traffic!!!!

someone give Monkey and Twisting My Melon a column in the star, or even better a sitcom. I cried laughing at their exchanges. Brilliant
