West Mercia Police admits online information error

West Mercia Police has admitted it accidentally posted sensitive information online.

The force has now removed the personal details about members of staff after they were posted on its own website by mistake.

Staff sickness records and performance issues were included in minutes of the July 26 meeting of the Shropshire Divisional command team and posted online for anyone to access.

The minutes talk in detail about the performance of a number of officers as well as staff sickness levels. They include information about two special constables who are mentioned by name – one who has been asked to resign and another who has already stepped down.

It also focusses on Shrewsbury Town Football Club and suggests that money the club has to pay for officers to supervise fans at games hadn’t been forthcoming.

The police today said it was an error with its accounts department and no money is outstanding.
