Police renew appeal over fatal motorbike crash

A 22-year-old motorcyclist who died in a crash in Mid Wales was from Cheshire, it emerged today. Police have reissued an appeal for witnesses to the accident to come forward.

The man, who has not yet been named but was from Runcorn, died at the scene of the crash on the A44 at Llandegley, near Llandrindod Wells on Sunday afternoon.

Powys coroner’s officer Peter Taylor revealed an inquest is due to be opened and adjourned tomorrow.

The motorbike rider suffered fatal head injuries in the accident which also involved two other motorcyclists, who suffered minor injuries.

Sharon Reynolds, Dyfed Powys Police spokeswoman, said the man had been identified by family and witnesses to the accident were being sought.

She said: “There has been a positive ID of the man and we are now re-appealing for anyone who saw the incident or the riders in the moments leading up to the crash to come forward and give us information.”

The accident happened near the Forest Inn in the village at 1pm and it closed the road to traffic for two hours.

Inspector Mark Davies, of Llandrindod Wells Police, added: “We are continuing inquiries and appeal for anyone who witnessed the crash or the riders leading up to the collision to get in touch with us as soon as possible.

“One man suffered a fatal head injury while two other motorcyclists were treated at the scene for minor injuries.”

An examination of the crash scene was carried out before the road was re-opened, he added.
