Body recovered from River Severn is identified

A body recovered from the River Severn in Shrewsbury is that of missing man Joshua Wreford, police confirmed today. Tributes have been paid to him.

Rescue teams found the body of the 24-year-old along a stretch of the river in the town on Friday afternoon.

The searches were being carried out as part of a police investigation into the disappearance of Mr Wreford, who had not been seen following a night out in the town on Wednesday.

Maria Wilkinson, spokeswoman for West Mercia Police, today confirmed Mr Wreford, of Radbrook, had been formally identified.

She said no details about a post-mortem or an inquest have been announced. The coroner has been informed.

Friends of Mr Wreford have paid tribute to him on a group called “RIP Josh Wreford. The laughs, the loves, the losses, the plausible deniability” on Facebook.

In a message its creator Ben Smith, says: “This group is to remember Josh/Yoshi how he wanted everyone to remember him, in good spirits.”

Mr Smith said he loved Josh like a brother and described him as a “gift that keeps on giving”.

Another tribute from Paul Hart, reads: “Rarely, if ever, does a person come into your life and make you feel like you’d want to know him forever.

“Josh was one of those people and I feel lucky to have known him. My thoughts and prayers are with Tez and all of Josh’s family.”

Many leaving messages have demanded CCTV cameras and secure fencing alo- ng the river in Shrewsbury after Mr Wreford’s death.

Mr Wreford left The Source Vodka Bar at about 10.30pm on Wednesday and was last seen in Barker Street at about 11.30pm. He was reported missing the next day.
