Shrewsbury road closed after crash
Saturday 14th August 2010, 11:30AM BST.
A Shrewsbury road had to be closed today following a collision involving two cars.
The incident happened at about 8.10am at the Abbey Foregate end of Monkmoor Road, near to the Spar shop.
Police said they were restricting public access to the Spar and had closed the road to traffic in both directions.
A spokeswoman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said they sent two crews and the incident commander from Shrewsbury and the rescue tender from Wellington.
She said crews used cutting equipment to release a man from one of the cars.
Staff at the Spar said one of the vehicles involved collided with the premises but it did not suffer major damage and they were hopeful it would be able to reopen later today.
