Ram-raid on Shrewsbury bowling alley

A stolen car was used in a ram raid on a bowling centre in Shrewsbury today.

The incident happened at the A M F Bowling Centre in Brixton Way just before 12.30am.

The main double-glazed doors to the premises were badly damaged but nothing was stolen.

It is believed three men were disturbed when the alarm sounded and they then ran off towards the Matalan shop and along Little Harlescott Lane.

Police have now launched an appealed for information.

Richard Ewels, West Mercia Police spokesman, said police were alerted by a nearby resident who was disturbed by the sound of banging.

He said: “Officers arrived within minutes and found a blue Rover 100 in front of the main entrance with its engine still running and lights on.

“It had been used to smash the doors, causing about £1,000 damage. The car had been stolen overnight from Princess Avenue in the Arleston area of Wellington.”

He added: “We would welcome any information about the burglary at the bowling centre, or indeed, the theft of the car during the night.”

Jonnie Ashley, assistant manager at the centre, said they were open as normal today.

He said: “It’s not caused us any inconvenience really as the damage was only to the doors.”
